How Often Should A Kitten Be Vaccinated
Kittens are vaccinated once every three to four weeks until they reach 16 weeks of age or older.
How often should a kitten be vaccinated. Your kitten should be vaccinated against the serious core diseases as soon as they are old enough. After this kittens and cats usually need booster vaccinations every twelve months. These kitten vaccinations will protect them as they re growing and with boosters throughout their adulthood. When puppies kittens and kits are born they are usually protected from infections by their mother s milk providing she has been regularly vaccinated.
The shots come in a series every 3 to 4. Kittens should have their first set of vaccinations at nine weeks old and at three months old they should receive the second set to boost their immune system. Until your kitten is fully vaccinated and neutered you should keep him or her inside. They ll need two injections 3 4 weeks apart from around eight weeks of age.
Giving vaccines twice ensures a satisfactory level of immunity. A booster vaccine should be given one year later to keep immunity levels high. Rabies is the other core kitten vaccination. Kittens can start their vaccinations from nine weeks old and will need a second set of injections usually 2 4 weeks after their initial set to complete their course.
Then they must be boostered a year latyer. Studies have shown that most animals have immunity from the diseases they are vaccinated against for at least three years after their first booster. However to avoid over vaccination most veterinarians will recommend starting the vaccine at 8 weeks of age followed by boosters at 12 weeks and 16 weeks old. Once a kitten is weaned and home with you they need their own protection.
Too late and kittens will be left susceptible to infection. Kittens should start getting vaccinations when they are 6 to 8 weeks old until they are about 16 weeks old. However this protection only lasts a few weeks so they need regular vaccinations from an early age. However older pets need protecting too as their immunity can decline.
We recommend doing the puppy and kitten series and a booster vaccine in one year and then every three years for the majority of core vaccines or possibly only rabies for indoor only animals.
